Picea orientalis Bergman's Gem Japanese GardensGrowing in our garden for over 12 years, this dwarf form of Caucasian Spruce develops into a globose plant with many leaders sending out offshoots in all directions, creating a dense nest habit. The dark green needles are very short and densely packed on the branches. This spruce grows about 6 inches a year, and will eventually get to be 6 ft. tall.

The plant was found about 1949

The blooms are highly attractive to early pollinators

giving it a silvery appearance

Found by the Wittbold-Müller Nursery of Verden-Eitze

The unusual structure makes for a good conversation piece

one of the very longest blooming plants in this group

light red flowers

but still allows excess water to drain away

but then all of the branches go down

It's short blue and green needles will glitter in the sun and your wonder and delight will deepen with every year

This tree will eventually grow to 25 ft

Growing only 2 inches per year will insure that this dwarf stays that way
